Let the number of 25 paisa coins be x and 50 paisa coins be y.

Now convert the given 25 and 50 paisa in rupees like 25 paisa will be 1/4=0.25 rupees and similarly 50 paisa will be 0.5 rupees

According to the question:

0.25x + 0.5y = 120....................eq1

and

x=3y....................eq2

Putting x=3y in eq1 we get,

0.25(3y) + 0.5y = 120

0.75y + 0.5y = 120

1.25y = 120

y = 96 and as x=3y

So, x = 288

Hope it Helps :)

Given,

A bag contains Rs.120

No. of 25 paise coins = thrice the no. of 50 paise coins

To find,

1) No. of 25 paise coins

2)No. of 50 paise coins

Main solution:

Step I

Convert the total amount into paise.
Rs 1 = 100 paise

Therefore,
Rs 120 = ( 120 × 100 )paise = 12000 paise

Step II Assume no. of coins of particular denominations

Let the no. of 50 paise coins be x

According to the question,
No. of 25 paise coins = 3 × x = 3x

Step III Calculate amount made/contributed by each type of denomination

Amount made by 50 paise coins = 50 × x = 50x

Amount made by 25 paise coins = 25 × 3x = 75 x

Step III Forming an equation

50 x + 75 x = 12000

125 x = 12000

x = 12000/125

= 96

Step III Calculate exact no. of coins of each denominations by using the value of x

50 paise coins = x = 96

25 paise coins = 3x = 3 × 96 = 288

Step IV Verify your answer

Let's calculate total money by using the value of no. of coins we get and matching it with the original amount of money.

Total money = (50 × 96) + (288×25)
= 4800 + 7200
= 12000 paise i.e. ₹120
