Solution:

Green Balls = 3x

Red Balls = 4x

Total balls = 140

3x + 4x = 140

7x = 140

x = 140/7

x = 20

Therefore, Green Balls =3x

3×20 = 60

Red Balls =4x

4×20 = 80

Concept

In mathematics, a ratio indicates how many times one number contains another.

Given

1) Ratio of Green balls to red balls 3  :  4

2) Total balls = 140

Find

Number of red balls in the bag

Solution

We have red balls as well as green balls

Ratio 3 : 4

Let Green balls be 3x and red balls be 4x

Green = 3x

Red = 4x

Total Balls = 140

3x + 4x = 140

7x = 140

x = 140/7

x = 20

Green balls = 20*3 = 60

Red Balls = 4*20 = 80

If a bag contains 140 balls then 80 balls are of red colour and 60 balls are of green colour.
