The total number of coins = 170

To find:

The total amount in bag  

Solution:

Let 4x, 5x and 8x are be the number of  1 rupee, 50 paise and 25 paise coins      [ ∵ the coins are in  4: 5 : 8 ratio ]

⇒ given that total number of coins = 170  

⇒  4x + 5x + 8x = 170

⇒ 17x = 170

⇒  x = 10    

Number of 1 Rupee coins, 4x = 4 × 10 = 40

⇒ the sum of amount = 4 × 1 = 40 Rs    

Number of 50 paise coins, 5x = 5 × 10 = 50

⇒ the sum of amount  = 50 × 50 ps =2500 ps = 25.00 Rs

Number of 25 paise coins, 8x = 8 × 10 = 80

⇒ the sum of amount = 80 × 25 p = 2000 ps = 20.00 Rs      

The total amount =  40 Rs + 25 Rs + 20 Rs = 85 Rs

The total amount in bag = 85 Rs
