Given,

  • A bag contains tickets which are numbered from 1 to 100.

To find,

The probability that a ticket number picked up at random

  • is a multiple of 7
  • is not a multiple of 7

Solution,

A bag contains tickets that are numbered from 1 to 100, then the probability that it is a multiple of 7 is 7/50 and is not a multiple of 7 is 43/50.

Total number of tickets in a bag = 100

Number of tickets that are multiple of 7 = {7,14,21,28,35,42,49,56,63,70,77,84,91,98}

Number of favorable cases = 14

Probability = favorable cases / Total number of cases

P( is a multiple of 7 ) = 14/100

                                  = 7/50

P( not a multiple of 7 ) = 1- P( is a multiple of 7)

                                    = 1-7/50

                                   = 43/50

Hence, a bag contains tickets that are numbered from 1 to 100, then the probability that it is a multiple of 7 is 7/50 and is not a multiple of 7 is 43/50.
