Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

A bag of fruits was distributed among 4 students P, Q, R and S. P took 3/8th of the fruits, Q took 1/5 th of the remaining fruits and the remaining fruits were equallydistributed among R and S .

To find:-

What fraction of fruits did R get ?

Solution:-

Let the total fruits distributed among P,Q,R and S in a bag be X

Number of fruits got by P = 3/8 th of the fruits

=>(3/8)×X

=>3X/8

Number of fruits got by P = 3X/8

Remaining fruits = X-(3X/8)

=>(8X-3X)/8

=>5X/8

Remaining fruits in the bag = 5X/8

Number of fruits got by Q = 1/5th of the remaining

=>(1/5)×(5X/8)

=>(5X)/(5×8)

=>5X/40

=>X/8

Number of fruits got by Q = X/8

Remaining fruits = (5X/8)-(X/8)

=>(5X-X)/8

=>4X/8

=>X/2

Remaining fruits after they were distributed to P and Q = X/2

Remaining fruits are distributed to R and S equally then

Number of fruits got by R = (X/2)/2

=>(X/(2×2)

=>X/4

R and S got X/4 fruits each.

Answer:-

The fraction of fruits R got = X/4

Check:-

Total fruits =

Fruits got by (P+Q+R+S)

=>(3X/8)+(X/8)+(X/4)+(X/4)

=>[(3X+X)/8] +[(X+X)/4]

=>(4X/8)+(2X/4)

=>(X/2)+(X/2)

=>(X+X)/2

=>2X/2

=>X

Total number of fruits
