Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

A bag of salt weights 2 1/4 kg .

To find :-

If 40 1/2 kg of salt is to be put in such bags

How many bags will required ?

Solution :-

Weight of a salt bag = 2 1/4 kg

=> (2×4+1)/4 kg

= >( 8+1)/4 kg

=> 9/4 kg

Weight of the salt bag = 9/4 kg

If 40 1/2 kg of salt is to be put in such bags then

Let the number of required bags be n

Weight of such n bags = n×9/4 kg

=> 9n/4 kg

According to the given problem

=> 9n/4 = 40 1/2

=> 9n/4 = (40×2+1)/2

=> 9n/4 = 81/2

On applying cross multiplication then

=> 9n×2 = 4×81

=> 18n = 324

=> n = 324/18

=> n = 18

Required bags = 18

Answer:-

The required bags for putting 40 1/2 kg of salt is 18

Check :-

Weight of each salt bag = 2 1/4 = 9/4 kg

Weight of such 18 bags

=> 18×9/4 kg

=> 9×9/2 kg

=> 81/2 kg

=> 40 1/2 kg

Verified the given relations in the given problem.
