A ball is dropped from a height Xcm such that it bounces twice but in it. The maximum height it reaches is one third of the maximum height from which it is dropped. Now the total distance travelled in 2 bounces starting from the instant it is dropped is 136cms.The value of X is.... Options.a.24 b. 72 c. 48 d. 96

Answer-

In the question it is said the ball bounces twice.

So we need to find the distance covered in two bounces.

Distance from which it is dropped = x

1st bounce total distance covered = x/3 + x/3 = 2x/3

2nd bounce total distance covered = x/9 + x/9 = 2x/9

Total distance covered = x

Then,

x + 2x/3 + 2x/9 = 136 cm

9x + 6x + 2x/9  = 136 cm

17x/9 = 136 cm

x = 72 cm

So the height from which the ball is dropped is 72 cm
