Given:

  • Height of tower = 5 metres

To find:

  • Velocity with which the ball strikes the ground ?

Calculation:

The ball experiences a constant gravitational acceleration of 9.8 m/s² after it is dropped from the tower.

Also, the initial velocity is zero.

So, we can apply the EQUATIONS OF KINEMATICS:

 {v}^{2}  =  {u}^{2}  + 2as

 \implies \:  {v}^{2}  =  {u}^{2}  + 2gh

 \implies \:  {v}^{2}  =  {0}^{2}  + 2(10)(5)

 \implies \:  {v}^{2}  = 100

 \implies \: v =  \sqrt{100}

 \implies \: v = 10 \: m {s}^{ - 1}

So, the ball reaches ground with 10 m/s velocity.
