A ball is dropped from a window 20 m above the ground in a tall apartment building. I reached out a different window on a story below and caught the ball when it was falling with a speed of 11 m/s when I caught it. How high above the ground did I catch the ball?

Answer:

I have taken acceleration fue to gravity g = 10 m/s²

Explanation:

Let the height above which the window was be x.

Distance travelled by ball = (20-x) m

Velocity of ball(v) = 11m/s , Iniatial velocity of ball(u) = 0

Applying equation of motion,

V²-u² = 2gH

=> 11² - 0² = 2×10 ×(20-x)

=> (20-x) = 121/20 = 6.05

=> x = 20- 6.05 = 13.95 m

Window was at a height of 13.95 m.
