A ball is gently dropped from a height of 20 m. If its velocity
increases uniformly at the rate of 10 ms, with what velocity
will it strike the ground? After what time will it strike the
ground?

s = ut +1/2 at^2

u=0

20= 1/2×10×t^2

t^2=20/4

t=2

  • Height (h or s) = 20 m

  • Initial velocity (u) = 0 m/s

  • Acceleration (a) = 10m/s²

____________ [ GIVEN ]

• We have to find the time (t) at which the stone strike the ground. Also, we have to find the final velocity (v) of the stone.

We know that ..

v² - u² = 2as

Put the known values in above formula

=> v² - (0)² = 2(10)(20)

=> v² = 400

=> v = √400

=> v = 20

Now..

v = u + at

=> 20 = 0 + 10t

=> 10 t = 20

=> t = 2 sec

After 2 seconds stone will strike the ground.
