A ball is projected vertically upwards with an initial velocity of u goes to a maximum height h before coming to
ground. What is the value of h?​

v^2 = (u^2) - 2gh

h = (u2 - v2)/2g

h is distance in metres,

v is the final velocity in metres per second,

u is the initial velocity in metres per second,

g is acceleration due to gravity, 9.8m/s^2.

The acceleration due to gravity is negative in the formula because as the ball travels upwards, it decelerates, causing reduction in the speed of the ball until it hits 0m/s, the final velocity.
