A ball is thrown directly upward with an initial velocity of 20m/s. How high does the ball go (assuming the ball leaves the person's hand at the 0m position)?

Answer:

Initial Velocity (u) = 20 m/s

Acceleration due to gravity (g) = -9.8 m/s²

.... Taken the value of 'g' as negative as the ball is going upwards which is against the gravitational pull of Earth

Final Velocity (v) = 0 m/s

Taking 'h' as Height,

v² = u²-2gh

0 = (20)² - [2*9.8*h]

0 = 400 - 19.6h

19.6h = 400

20.4 m is the Height.

I hope this helps.
