A ball is thrown downwards from a height of 588 m with a velocity of 64 m/s.

We have to find the time taken by the ball to reach the ground.

From above data we have; height (h) is 588 m, initial velocity (u) is 0 m/s (as initially ball is at rest) and final velocity (v) is 64 m/s.

We know that acceleration due to gravity (a) is 9.8 = 10 m/s² (approx.)

Using the Second Equation Of Motion:

s = ut + 1/2 at²

Substitute the known values,

→ 588 = 0(t) + 1/2 × 10 × t²

→ 588 = 0 + 5t²

→ 588 = 5t²

→ 117.6 = t²

→ √117.6 = t

→ 10.84 = t

→ 11 = t (approx.)

(Negative value of time will be neglected. As time can't be negative.)

Therefore, the time taken by the ball is 11 seconds.
