Answer:

Hi, When a body is thrown upward its velocity keeps on decreasing because of the deceleration due to acceleration due to gravity (g) which pulls the body in downward direction. At the maximum height velocity becomes zero. Therefore, velocity at the top is zero and acceleration is acceleration due to gravity (g).

Given:

Ball is thrown vertically upwards.

To find:

Acceleration and velocity at top ?

Calculation:

  • Let's assume that the ball was initially thrown with a velocity of 'u' m/s upwards.

  • Gravitational Acceleration of 9.8 m/s² acts in the downward direction. This leads to decrease in the velocity of the ball as it rises upwards.

  • At the most position, the ball momentarily stops and its final velocity is zero .

  • However, this position the ball is still experiencing the gravitational acceleration (g = 9.8 m/s²) downwards.

  • After the top point, the ball now again increases the magnitude of velocity and come backs to ground.
