when a ball is thrown upward ...there is an instance when it reaches the highest point and starts to fall back
thus, it tells us that the gravity is pulling down the ball from the very start.
now, we can conclude from this that the regarted force i.e. the acceleration is the gravitational pullwhich makes the ball to encounter with a v of 0 m/sec at the highest point.
{thus,
at the highest point-
acceleration =9.8 m/sec^2
and
the velocity =0m/sec.}
