A ball is thrown vertically down towards the ground with an initial velocity of 4.23 ms-1. The ball falls for a time of 1.51s before hitting the ground. Air resistance is negligible.

(a) Calculate the final velocity before it touches the ground.

(b) Calculate the height if acceleration is 10m/s2.

Given : ball is thrown vertically down towards the ground with an initial velocity of 4.23 m/s

The ball falls for a time of 1.51s before hitting the ground

To Find :  final velocity before it touches the ground.

Calculate the height

Solution:

V = U + at

U = 4.23 m/s

a = g = 10 m/s²

t = 1.51 sec

=>V =  4.23   + (10)1.51

=> V = 4.23   + 15.1

=> V = 19.33 m/s

V² - U² = 2aS

=> 19.33² - 4.23²  = 2(10)S

=> S = 17.788 m

Height =  17.8 m
