Given ,

Inital speed (U) = 98 m/s

Final speed (V) = 0 m/s

Acceleration due to gravity in toward up is (A) - 9.8 m/s²

By using Newton's first equation of motion ,

 \large \sf \fbox{V = U + AT}

Substitute the known values , we get

 \sf  \mapsto 0 = 98  - (9.8)t \\  \\ \sf  \mapsto  t =  \frac{ - 98}{ - 9.8}  \\  \\  \sf  \mapsto t = 10 \:  \: sec

If , time for upward direction is equal to the time for downward direction

Then time taken by a ball to reach ground is 10 + 10 i.e 20 sec
