A ball is thrown vertically upwards. It returns 5 seconds later. Find the greatest height reached by the ball.

Now we should want to find the initial velocity,

By using 1st equation of motion,

v=u+at

0=u+(-10)(5)

0=u-10(5)

0=u-50

50=u

Now initial velocity is 50.

Now the max height is,

u^2/2 g=height max.

50^2/2(10)=h

2500/20=h

h= 125 m.

So the greatest height reached by the ball is 125 m.
