Using Newtonian mechanics,v=u+at
You must understand that at some point of time the ball would acquire a zero velocity and then come back to the ground
So v=0 and u=40 and taking the upward direction to be positive a=-9.8m/s²
We get t=40/9.8=4.081s
After acquiring zero velocity it has lost all its kinetic energy and starts to fall down ,so time of ascent =4.081s
