Hi,

Given:

Initial Velocity of the ball(u)=49m/s

Height(distance(s))=122m

To find:

Time taken to return back

Solution:

Velocity of the ball at maximum height(v)=0m/s

We know the equation

v=u+at

Here a=g(acceleration due to gravity)=9.8m/s². In this equation it is taken as negative because the direction of motion of the ball is opposite to that of direction of acceleration due to gravity.

Substitute the given datas in the above equation

We get,

0=49+-9.8×t

-49/-9.8=t

t=5 s

Since the ball has to go up and come down, the total time taken would be 5+5=10s

hope this helps you.
