A ball is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity u from the top of the tower. if it strikes the ground with velocity 3u, what is the time taken by the ball to reach the ground?

Answer:

the ball when come back on the level of the tower it takes a time of 2u/g.

at that moment it will have a velocity u downward.

taking initial velocity=u &final vel=3u

and acceleration g we get,

3u= u+gt

or,t=2u/g

therefore total time taken= 2u/g+

2u/g=4u/g
