When a ball thrown vertically upwards then at the maximum height what happens? It just stop and tending to come down. So as it stops at maximum height So velocity at that point will be zero. As in this whole process gravity is the only force that is acting on the ball so the acceleration at every point in this process will be equal to 'g' I.e 9.81.

The velocity will be zero at that point, from which the ball starts coming vertically downwards.
