A ball of 1kg strikes a wall with velocity 1m/s at an angle of 30 degrees with the wall and reflects at the same angle. If it remains in contact with wall for 0.1 seconds, then the force is? the answer is 10root3. i cant understand the derivation of the root 3.

There is no change in linear momentum of ball along Y-axis.

initial linear momentum of ball along x -axis , P_i = mvcos30°

final linear momentum of ball along x- axis , p_f = -mvcos30°

change in linear momentum of ball along x - axis , \Delta P=P_f-P_i = -mvcos30° - mvcos30°

= -2mvcos30°

we know, force is change in linear momentum per unit time.

so, force = -2mvcos30°/t

here, m = 1 kg, v = 1m/s and t = 0.1

so, force = -2 × 1 × 1 × √3/2/0.1

force = -10√3 N

hence, magnitude of force = 10√3N
