Given :-

Mass of the ball = 40 Kg

Initial velocity of the ball = 10 ms-¹

Considering the upward motion as positive.

Here, in this question a ball is thrown upward and we are required to find Potential Energy of it when it will reach the highest point. It means to say that Potential Energy of the ball is equal to the Kinetic Energy of ball.

P.E. = K.E

P.E = 1/2 mv²

P.E = 1/2 × 40 × 10 × 10

P.E = 2000 Joules

Alternative Way,

Height attained by the ball = h = u²/2g

h = 10 × 10/2 × 10

h = 5 m.

P.E. = mgh

P.E = 40 × 10 × 5

P.E = 2000 Joules

Hence,

The Potential Energy of the ball = P.E. = 2000 Joules.
