A ball of mass M is suspended from two identical springs each with spring constant K and undeformed length L. The ball is held in the line with two springs as in fig.
When the Ball begins to fall find the magnitude of the acceleration of the ball at the instant when it has fallen through a vertical distance x . if m =250 g,k=130 N/m ,L= 12 CM ,x = 5 cm and
(g=10m/(s) sq)?

The value of acceleration is a = - 10 m/s^2

Explanation:

  • The net force on the block
  • Fnet = Mg - 2 kx cos θ
  • The value of cos x = x / √x^2 + L^2
  • = Mg - (2 kx) x  (x / √x^2 + L^2)
  • Fnet = Mg - 2 kx^2 / √x^2 + L^2
  • a = Fnet / M = g - 2 kx^2 / M√x^2 + L^2
  • After putting the values we get
  • a = 10 - 20 = - 10 m/s^2
