They both attain the same height because they both must have

equal vertical components of velocity.

H = 1/2 g t^2    where t is the time to fall a distance H

Also, H = Vy t - 1/2 g t^2

Vy - g t = 0     where t is time for vertical velocity to reach zero

t = Vy / g

So H = Vy^2 / g - 1/2 g * Vy^2 / g^2 = Vy^2 / (2 g) = 1/2 g t^2

Showing the time to rise to height H is the same as the time to fall H
