head on collision with an identical ball at rest. The
kinetic energy of the ball after the collision is 4%
of the original. Find the coefficient of restitution.

Hii

you are welcome in my ans

GIVEN

mass of ball = m

velocity =v

mass of 2nd ball =m

Let final velocity of both ball be v1 and v2

m(v1+v2) =mv

v1 + v2=v

v1 - v2 =ev

k.E =ev

final K.E= 96*initial/100

1mv1^2/2 + 1/2mv2^2= 96*m*v^2/200

v1^2 +v2^2 =96*v^2/100

{(v1^2+ v2^2 )+ (v1^2 - v2^2)}/2 = 96*v^2/100

(1+e^2)v^2/2 =96*v^2/100

1+e^2 = 96/100

e^2 =4/100

e=2/10

e =1/5

Hope it may helps you

Answer:

Explanation: 3/5. Since e=v2-v1/u1.

Where v1/u1=2/5and

v2\u1= root of (96/100) approx 1

This implies e= 1-2/5=3/5
