In this case there is no external force applying on the ball. And the ball is displaying inertia. As inertia says that an object at rest or of uniform motion will remain in the State of rest or of uniform motion untill an external force is applied. There is no external force here as the ground is frictionless, there is no frictional force to stop the ball from moving further
