Answer:

The Initial velocity of the ball = 10 m/s

The final velocity of the ball = 0 m/s

The time taken = 8 s

Acceleration = ?

Using first equation of motion :

⇒ v = u + at

⇒ 0 = 10 + a×8

⇒ 10 + 8a = 0

⇒ 10 = -8a

⇒ a = -10/8

⇒ a = -5/4

⇒ a = -1.25 m/s²

Hence, the acceleration of the ball = -1.25 m/s².

Three equations of motion :

  1. v = u + at
  2. s = ut + ½at²
  3. v² - u² = 2as

Some more information :

  • Velocity is said to be the rate of change of displacement.
  • Acceleration is said to be the rate of change of velocity.
  • Velocity, Acceleration and Displacement are vector quantities.

Answer:

Given

\leadsto A ball rolling along the ground with velocity of 10 m/s and comes to rest at 8 sec.

To Find

\leadsto What it's acceleration.

Formula Used

v = u + at

where,

  • v = final velocity
  • u = initial velocity
  • a = acceleration
  • t = time taken

According to the question by using formula we get,

\implies 0 = 10 + (a) (8)

\implies 0 = 10 + 8a

\implies 10 + 8a = 0

\implies 10 = - 8a

\implies a = \dfrac{-10}{8}

\implies a = \dfrac{-5}{4}

\implies a = - 1.25 m/

\therefore Hence, the acceleration of the ball is - 1.25 m/.
