Question :-

A ball is thrown up vertically , returns after 4 seconds

To find :-

Velocity with which it was thrown up = ?

Solution :-

Initial velocity ( u ) = ?

Final velocity ( v ) = 0 m/s [ since the ball reaches the ground at the same distance with opposite direction ]

Acceleration due to gravity (g) = -9.8 m/sec²

[ ball is thrown upwards against the gravity hence the g becomes -9.8 m/sec² ]

Time taken = 4 seconds [ Given ]

According to first equation of motion :-

v = u + at

By substituting all the given information over here we get,

0 = u + ( -9.8)(4)

0 = u - 39.2

Therefore u = 39.2 m/s

The ball was thrown up with an 39.2 m/s by the thrower vertically
