Given:

At the center of of a hollow sphere shell a ball is placed.

Charge on ball = -20e

Net charge = -40e

To find:

Outershell surface charge

Solution:

A ball is placed inside at the center of a sphere that means the inner surface of shell has negative charge due to induction and magnitude which is equal to +20e.

Net charge of the shell = -40e

So suppose the outer surface charge is q then total outer surface charge is 20e + q

then according to question, net charge on the shell is same,

20e + q = -40e

       q = -40e -20e

      q = -60e

so, outer shell surface charge is 20e + q = 20e - 60e

                                                                    = -40e

therefore, charge on outer shell surface is -40e.
