A ball with mass 16 kg moves with 3 m/s in positive x-axis , the ball suddenly splits into three parts, part one with 6 kg, and 2 m/s, in the same direction, second part stopped directly with 8 kg, find the speed of the third part

The speed of the third part is 18 m/s

Explanation:

Mass of the ball = 16 kg

Mass of the third part will be = 16 - 6 - 8 = 2 kg

If its velocity is v then

From conservation of linear momentum

16\times 3=6\times 2+8\times 0+2\times v

\implies 48=12+2v

\implies 2v=36

\implies v=18 m/s

Hope this is helpful.
