For ball x, for ball y,
Given, given,
u*= 2m/s. u=0
V*=0. V=?
m*=1kg. = m=1kg
Now, according to law of conservation of momentum,
mu* + mu = mv* + mv ( m* = m ),
m(u* + u) = m(v* + v ),
both "m" get cencelled!
So,
u* + u = v* + v ,
2 + 0 = 0 + v ,
Hence the velocity(final) of ball y, after the collision is 2m/s.
