Answer:

2.16 seconds

Explanation:

Given :

  • Initial velocity = u = 10 m/s

  • Height from which the stone is dropped = s = 45 metres

  • Acceleration due to gravity = a = 10 m/s²

To find:

  • Time taken by the stone to fall down

Using the second equation of motion :

S=u×t+½×at²

45=10×t+½×10×t²

45=10t+5t²

5t²+10t-45=0

By solving the above quadratic equation, t = 2.16 seconds

The time taken by the stone to fall down is equal to 2.16 seconds

Answer:

Given:

  • A balloon is raising vertically up with a velocity of 10m/s. When it is at height of 45m a stone is released from it.

Find:

  • When will the stone reach the ground?

Using formula:

{\sf{\underline{\boxed{\orange{\sf{H = u \times t+ 1/2 \times at^{2}}}}}}}

Know terms:

  1. Height = (H)
  2. Initial velocity = (u)
  3. Acceleration = (a)
  4. Time = (t)

Calculations:

\bold{45=10 \times t+ 1/2 \times 10 \times t^{2}}

\bold{45=10t+5t^{2}}

\bold{5t^{2} +10t-45 = 0}

{\sf{\underline{\boxed{\red{\sf{t = 2.16 \: sec}}}}}}
