R = M(g - a)

R = M(g - g/3)

R = 2Mg/3

While rising

R = (M - m)(g + a)

2Mg/3 = (M - m)(g + g/3)

2Mg/3 = (M - m)4g/3

M = (M-m)2

M/2 = M - m

m = M - M/2

m = M/2

Mass to be removed is M/2.
