A baloon is accending at a rate of 40m/s. at a height of 98m/s from above ground when a packet is dropped from it. after how much time and with what velocity does it reaches the ground.

Initial velocity = 14 m/s upwards (therefore +ve) .

Using kinematic equations:

S=ut +12at212at2

-98 = 14t -1212 9.8 t2t2

From here, solving the quadratic eqn, we get t=57.857.8 secs (approx)

Now, velocity can be calculated by using conservation of energy :

12mv2=mgh12mv2=mgh

1212 v2=ghv2=gh

1212 v2=9.8×98v2=9.8×98

From here, v =98√598√5=43.8 m/s (approximately)
