To find that you need another magnet which has the north pole and the south pole marked . Bring the north pole of the magnet 1 ( magnet with markings ) to one side of the bar magnet if it attracts then the side is south . If it repels then the side is north . the north pole of the compass(which the red coloured side of the pin) will point towards any one side of the magnet this end is the South pole(as opposite poles attract each other).
