The length of the bar at 19 °C will be 9.99989 cm
Explanation :
From the law of thermal expansion of solid, we know that,
L = L₀(1 + αΔt)
where L₀ = actual length = 10 cm
α = coefficient of thermal expansion = 0.000011
Δt = temp. difference = 19 - 20 = -1 °C
putting these values in the above equation we get,
L = 10( 1 - 0.000011 x 1)
=> L = 10(0.999989)
=> L = 9.99989 cm
Hence the length of the bar at 19 °C will be 9.99989 cm
