Answer: option 3

Explanation:

Basic buffer is a mixture of NH_{4} OH and NH_{4} Cl.

NH_{4} OHNH_{4}^{+}+OH^-

NH_{4} ClNH_{4}^{+}+ Cl^{-}

By the law of chemical equilibrium,   base dissociation constant

(K_{b}) = {[NH_{4} ^+] [OH^{-} ]} / [NH_{4} OH]

[OH^-] = {K_{b} [NH_{4}OH]} / [NH_{4}^+]

Taking negative log both sides, we obtain that -

-log [OH^-] = -log K_{b}-log {[NH_{4}OH] / [NH4^+]}\\P_{OH} = P_{K_{b}} + log { [NH4^+] / [NH_{4}OH]}\\P_{OH} = P_{K_{b}} + log {[salt] / [base]}

This equation is known as Henderson’s Equation

Where, K_{b} = dissociation constant

[NH_{4}^+]= initial concentration of salt

[NH_{4}OH] = initial concentration of base

The equation is given that P_{OH} - P_{K_{b}} = 1.     --------   (1)

                   P_{OH} = P_{K_{b}} + log {[conjugate acid] / [base]}\\P_{OH} - P_{K_{b}} = log {[conjugate acid] / [base]}

From equation 1 we put the value of P_{OH} - P_{K_{b}}

1 = log {[conjugate acid] / [base]}

As we already know that the value of log 10 is 1. So we can write log 10 in the place of 1.

log 10= log {[conjugate acid] / [base]}

10/1 = conjugate acid / base

Conjugate acid :- base = 10 : 1

The functions of bases and acids

An acid is any substance containing hydrogen that is capable of donating a proton (hydrogen ion) to another substance. A base is a molecule or ion with the ability to absorb the hydrogen ion from an acid.

Acidic substances are typically recognized by their sour flavors. A molecule that can donate an H+ ion while keeping its energetic favorability even after losing H+ is a basic definition of an acid. It is well known that blue litmus paper becomes red when exposed to acids.

The definitions of the terms acid and base vary depending on how one chooses to see the properties of acidity and basicity.
