A basket contains red, blue and yellow pebbles. 1/4 of the pebbles are red. 2/9 of the remaining pebbles are blue. what fraction of the pebbles in the box are yellow. ?

Answer:

Let the total number of pebbles be x

Then number of red pebbles=x/4

Remaining amount is 3x/4

Then the number of blue pebbles=(2/9)×(3x/4)=x/6

Let the number of yellow pebbles=y

Then (x/4)+(x/6)+y=x

5x/12+y=x

y=x-(5/12) =(7/12)x

So fraction of yellow pebbles=(7/12)x/x=7/12 Ans
