Given :- A basket has as many mangoes as it has oranges. Three-fourths of the fruits are yellow. One half of the fruits are ripe. Which of the following statements is definitely true ?
A) All fruits are ripe
B) At least one half of the oranges are yellow.
C) All mangoes are ripe .
D) None of these .
Solution :-
Let ,
→ Mangoes = Oranges = x
so,
→ Yellow fruits = (3/4) of 2x = (3x/2)
and,
→ Ripe fruits = (1/2) of 2x = x .
since ripe mangoes are yellow in color .
if we assume all mangoes are ripe(yellow), then,
→ (3x/2) - x = (x/2) oranges are yellow .
and if we assume atleast some of the mangoes are yellow, then also,
→ (3x/2) - (mangoes) ≥ (x/2) .
therefore, we can conclude that, at least one half of the oranges are yellow .
Hence, Option (B) is correct answer .
