A bat and ball together cost ₹1200. The cost of the ball is 1/5 of the cost of the bat. Find the cost of the bat & ball.

Answer:

let the cost of bat be x

cost of ball = 1/5 of the cost of bat

= 1/5of x

= x/5

according to question

x + x/5 = 1200

 \frac{5x + x}{5}  = 1200\\\frac{6x}{5}  = 1200 \\ 6x = 1200 \times 5 \\6x = 6000 \\ x =  \frac{6000}{6}  \\ x = 1000

therefore cost of bat = x = 1000 rupees

cost of ball = x/5 = 1000/5 = 200 rupees
