A bat emits ultrasonic sound of frequency 1000 kHz in air. If the sound meets a water surface, what is the wavelength of the transmitted sound? Spee I of sound in air is 340 m s⁻¹ and in water 1486 m s⁻¹.

frequency of ultrasonic sound , f = 1000kHz
f = 1000 × 1000 Hz = 10^6 Hz
we know, speed of sound in water , v = 1486m/s
Let wavelength of the transmitted sound is \lambda_t

use formula, v=\lambda f

so, \lambda_t=\frac{v}{f}

= 1486/10^6

= 1.488 × 10^-3 m

hence, wavelength of the transmitted sound is 1.488 × 10^-3 m
