Given data :

A batsman has a certain average in 59 innings.

His average increased by 2 runs after scoring 181 in the last innings.

To find :

His average after these 60 innings

Calculations :

Let x be the average of first 59 innings,

and y be the total runs made (sum of runs of 59 innings).

Based on this, the average of 59 innings will be :  \frac{y}{59} = x

                                                                                  ⇒ y = 59x

Given that In next innings, i.e., in 60th inning, he scored 181 runs and his average is increased by 2 runs.

So, the average of 60 innings will be : \frac{y+181}{60} =x+2

                                                             ⇒ y + 181 = 60(x + 2)

                                                             ⇒ y + 181 = 60x + 120

                                                             ⇒ 60x - y = 181 - 120

As we got y = 59x in 59 innings computation, replace y by 59x here.

                                                             ⇒ 60x - 59x = 61

                                                             ⇒ x = 61

As x is defined as the average of 59 innings, the average of 59 innings is 61 runs.

On 60th inning, average is increased by 2 runs.

So, the average of 60 innings is = x + 2

                                                       = 61 + 2

                                                       = 63 runs

Therefore, His average after 60 innings is 63 runs.
