Given :- A batsman in his 14th inning makes a score of 73 runs and thereby increases his average by 3.

To Find :- His average after the 14th inning ?

A. 33

B. 34.

C. 43

D. None of these

Solution :-

Let us assume that, his average before 14th inning was x .

So,

→ Total runs scored by batsman in 13 innings = 13 * x = 13x runs .

and,

→ In 14th inning runs scored by him = 73 runs

then,

→ Total runs after 14 innings = (13x + 73) runs

also,

→ New average = (x + 3)

therefore,

→ New average = Total runs / 14

→ (x + 3) = (13x + 73)/14

→ 14(x + 3) = 13x + 73

→ 14x + 42 = 13x + 73

→ 14x - 13x = 73 - 42

→ x = 31

hence,

→ New average = (x + 3) = 31 + 3 = 34 (B) (Ans.)

His average after the 14th inning is equal to 34 runs .
