A battery of 12 V, a 5 Ω resistor, a 10 Ω resistor, and a 30 Ω resistor all connected as
shown in figure. a, b

i) Which of the two circuits has more resistance?
ii) In which circuit, the potential difference across each resistor is equal?
iii) Through which circuit more current passes?
iv)Calculate the total resistance in each case

Explanation:

i) Circuit a has more resistance since all the resistors are connected in series.

(regard my 4th answer for more explanation.)

ii) Circuit b.

In parallel combination of resistor, every resistor has equal potential difference.

iii) Circuit a.

In series combination of resistor, every resistor has equal amount of current and that's the maximum possible current they can get.

iv) In circuit a, total resistance equal;

Total Resistence =R1 + R2 + R3;

= 5 + 10 + 30;

= 45 ohms.

In circuit b, total resistance equals;

1/Total resistance = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3

= 1/5 + 1/10 + 1/30

= 10/30

= 1/3;

Total resistance = 3 ohms.

That's all.
