A battery of e.m.f. 10V and internal resistance 32 is connected to a external
resistor. If the current in the circuit is 0.5A, Calculate the

i)
external resistor and
ii)
terminal voltage of the battery.​

Answer:

Emf of the battery E=10 volts

Internal resistance of the cell r=3Ω

Current flowing through the circuit I=0.5A

Potential drop across internal resistance V=Ir

∴ V=0.5×3=1.5 volts

Thus terminal voltage of the battery V

=E−V

∴ V

1

=10−1.5=8.5 volts
