GIVEN:

Radius of the beaker = 10cm

Surface Tention of water = 0.075 N/m

TO FIND:

Calculate the force of surface tension.

SOLUTION:

To find the force, we will be using the formula for surface tension = Force/ length (f/l)

  • Surface tension is nothing but the force required to increase the surface area of the liquid with respect to unit area.

If Surface tension = f/l

Then, the force acting on the diametrical line will be

F = S × l

where,

S = 0.075 N/m

l = 10 × 2 = 20 cm

= 20/100 = 0.2m

F = 0.075 × 0.2

= 0.015N

or

1.5 \times  {10}^{ - 2}  n

Thus, the force of surface tension on any diametrical line on its surface S.T of water is 0.075 N/m =

1.5 × 10^-2 N
