The fraction of incident light that passes through the system is given below:

Explanation:

Given :-

Beam of natural light falls on a system of 5 Polaroids.

The pass axis of each polarid is turned through 60 degree

After passing through I st polaroid,

  I = Io / 2

After passing through next 4 polaroids

  I = Io / 2 . { cos^2 (60) }^4

  I = Io / 2 . ( 1 / 4 )^4

  I = Io / 2 . 1 / 216

  I = Io / 512

 hence,  I = 1 / 512

Therefore, the fraction of incident light that passes through the system is      1 / 512.
