Let the width of the room be x feet

length of the room be (x+3) feet

Area = length × breadth

154 = x(x+3)

154 = x²+3x

x²+3x-154=0

x²+14x-11x-154=0

x(x+14) - 11(x+14) =0

(x-11)(x+14) = 0

Therefore x=11 (Neglect -14 because length is not -ve)

Hence the width of the room is 11 feet and length is 11+3= 14 feet
